Akmal: I’ll resign as exco if Nga quits Cabinet
KLANG: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh said he will resubmit his resignation as a Melaka executive councillor if Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming steps down from the Cabinet.
“I accept the challenge, but with one condition – ask Nga to submit his resignation. The day he submits his, I will submit mine,” he said at the Kapar Umno Youth delegates’ meeting here today.
He was responding to remarks by DAP’s Teng Chang Khim, who had challenged him to follow through on his earlier decision to resign as a state exco member, FMT reported.
Dr Akmal had announced his resignation in January, saying it was driven by his commitment to oppose DAP and to represent grassroots voices.
His move drew mixed reactions from DAP leaders, ranging from criticism to calls for continued focus on governance and anti-corruption.
However, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh later rejected the resignation, allowing him to remain in the state administration.
