Calm down, don’t speak in haste, Annuar tells Bersatu

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional information chief Annuar Musa has urged Bersatu to calm down and not make hasty statements about its position in the coalition.
Annuar reminded all parties not to make “premature conclusions”, saying this would worsen the situation.
“The next step must be taken carefully and without haste, because several legal aspects need to be examined,” he said in a Facebook post today.
“We also need to consider the other components, especially the Malaysian Indian People’s Party and Gerakan. PAS cannot do as it pleases.
“It is best to minimise unhelpful statements, especially those that cross disciplinary lines, because they can lead to further actions.”

Annuar, who is a PAS central working committee member, also reminded Bersatu that it had experience in handling disciplinary matters.
“We believe Bersatu has plenty of experience with such situations, having had to convene its disciplinary board to discuss, suspend and expel party members.
“In truth, the PN constitution’s provisions are not too different from Bersatu’s constitution. The important thing is that neither PAS nor Bersatu can act unilaterally,” he said.
He also said a notice for the next PN Supreme Council meeting would be issued soon to discuss the coalition’s direction.
Last night, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said the party was prepared to fight PAS “on all fronts” following the Islamic party’s decision to cut ties with Bersatu.

Muhyiddin also said Bersatu would contest the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections under the PN banner as the party had helped found the coalition.
He said Bersatu would remain in PN, citing the coalition’s “strong brand”.
Muhyiddin earlier claimed that PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar had yet to call for a meeting to discuss the coalition’s preparations for the state elections.
Annuar’s statement is similar to remarks by PAS vice-president Amar Abdullah, who said Muhyiddin’s plan for Bersatu to use the PN logo in the polls was premature and hasty.
He said Bersatu’s intention to contest under the PN banner should have been discussed within the coalition.
