DAP to defend all seats in Johor and Negri, postpones special congress

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP will defend all its seats in Johor and Negri Sembilan and is seeking to contest additional seats in Johor in the upcoming state elections, says secretary-general Anthony Loke.

Loke also announced that the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) had decided to postpone the party’s special congress from July 12 to Aug 16.

It was previously reported that the special congress would allow delegates to decide whether DAP office-bearers should relinquish all positions held in the government.

In a statement last night, he said the final allocation of seats would depend on negotiations with Pakatan Harapan component parties, which are expected to conclude by this weekend.

He said the party’s candidate selection committee for the state elections would comprise himself, DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo, deputy chairman Nga Kor Ming, DAP Wanita chief Teo Nie Ching and parliamentary leader Chong Chieng Jen.

Loke also said DAP supported the tabling of a bill to separate the roles of the Attorney-General and Public Prosecutor during the Dewan Rakyat sitting beginning on June 22.
