Express bus driver, woman in viral lap-sitting clip to give statement tomorrow

JASIN: An express bus driver seen in a viral video driving with a woman seated on his lap is expected to give his statement at the district police headquarters tomorrow.

District police chief Superintendent Lee Robert said the woman in the video will also give her statement on the same day.

Lee said police have contacted both individuals, and both have given assurances that they will present themselves tomorrow.

He said the woman is currently in Kedah and is expected to return to Kuala Lumpur tonight before heading to the police headquarters with the driver.

“The driver also informed that he is in Sungai Besi and has agreed to come to Jasin as promised to assist investigations.

“The cooperation of both individuals is important to complete the investigation, which is being carried out under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement today.

It was reported that police confirmed the express bus driver is married, while the woman is believed to be his acquaintance.

At the time of the incident, the bus was travelling from the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur to Larkin in Johor.

In an eight-second viral video, the driver was seen allegedly holding a woman on his lap while driving towards the Bemban Rest and Service Area (southbound) in Jasin about 7.30pm last Sunday.
