PETALING JAYA: DAP’s Teresa Kok defended her decision not to report her former officer to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission after discovering alleged misappropriation of funds for her constituency, following criticisms by a former MCA vice-president.
Ti Lian Ker had questioned a claim by DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang that Kok stood for “integrity, accountability, responsibility, good governance and democracy”.
“I believe Kok did not report the matter to the anti-corruption agency and was not responsible for the arrest of her two former officers,” Lim was quoted as saying.
Ti wondered how one could stand for integrity, good governance and democracy if one failed to report an alleged misappropriation of funds by a subordinate.
“Does it not tantamount to covering up?” he told FMT.

He also said DAP should walk the talk as it had for the longest time touted accountability and transparency.
“They wooed voters in the past based on these two principles, so now is the best time to practise what they preach.
“They would have demanded the same if it involved politicians on the other side of the aisle,” he said, adding that Kok should have lodged a report and push for a thorough investigation instead.
Asked to comment on Ti’s comments, Kok said she had raised concerns about the rationale behind the federal territory education department’s request for and provision of smartboards for schools in Kuala Lumpur.
The Seputeh MP reiterated that her speech in Parliament was published in full on her social media platforms for transparency and public record.

“I think sacking my former assistant was enough,” she told FMT.
Kok said she still had a “soft spot” for her former aide despite terminating his service.
“I saw him grow up and he had worked for me for more than 10 years,” she said.
Earlier, Lim came to Kok’s defence after she raised concerns over her prospects of re-election to the party’s central executive committee following the investigation into her former aides.
He said it would be unfortunate if the investigation diminished Kok’s chances at the elections on March 16.
Yesterday, Kok told Malaysiakini many could not accept it when she decided to dismiss and terminate the service of one of her aides last year after discovering the alleged misconduct.
