TNB never cheats Rakyat.

Welcome to Malaysia, this is the country when during MCO period some of the Rakyat is fighting for 50% electricity bill discounts via a Petition recently, I still remember when my friend told me Seng Heng warehouse was almost empty during April 2020 as electricity appliance was sold like hot cakes!

During MCO, everyone become masterchef, we were force to cook ourself, bake roti ourself, work from home, children study from home, and news reported electrical goods esp frying pan & wok surge 880%, fitness equipment surge 200%, air conditioning to cool you down, don’t they need electricity to power up?

but strangely some of them forgotten all this, and I am puzzle and wonder why some of these people shamelessly taking advantage to demand for 50% discount after consuming electricity? Pls take a look what happen in other countries(data compiled by my colleague Ir Arulnathan Gynasegaran) :

1) UK
“UK households could be facing a 37% increase in their energy bills, equating to an extra £32 ($40) per month, new research has found.

The amount of energy used to power home appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, ovens, televisions and lighting has shot up during the UK’s coronavirus lockdown”

2) Thailand
“..for many of us, our electricity bills this month were a lot higher than usual because of the work-from-home policy that has spurred home consumption of a significant amount of extra electricity. Moreover, this being the summer, people are suffering from the heat and scorching sun, so they cannot resist turning on the air-conditioning.”

4) Blog by Columbia University NY, USA
“During the Monday-to-Friday 9am-to-5pm window, when most household members would normally be at work, at school or engaging in other activities outside the home, increases were even larger: We see a 23 percent increase in average apartment-level electricity consumption during those times. This additional daytime consumption, which normally would be met by employers or institutions, has now been shifted to individuals.” https://blogs.ei.columbia.edu/2020/04/21/covid-19-energy-costs-households/

5) Hawaii
“On average, customers used about 13% more electricity, with above-average users consuming as much as 17% more.”

“Customers are now receiving true-up bills that reflect the amount of electricity used during the billing period, in addition to what was actually used when bills were estimated. For accounts that reduced energy use during the pandemic, the true-up bill will account for any overestimation from the prior estimated bill. For accounts that increased energy usage, the true-up bill will account for any underestimation from the prior estimated bill.”

“We announced in March that to do our part to keep our employees safe and stop the spread of COVID-19, we would scale back meter reading from late March to early May. Bills were estimated based on usage in prior months.”

The conclusion is, this is not a Malaysia issue, it is a global issue, don’t simply sign up any petition that is not true, understand Tenaga Nasional
explanation first on the prorated method of calculation, don’t jump into the conclusion easily and drag by hatred emotional speech.
