Two killed after SUV crashes moments after U-turn in Gua Musang

GUA MUSANG: Two men were killed in an accident along Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Lipis, near Bukit Lanjut, here, this morning, moments after a Proton X70 made a U-turn.

Gua Musang district police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the accident occurred at 10.24am.

He said police personnel conducting routine checks at Km16 of the road had earlier spotted the SUV being driven suspiciously.

The patrol unit trailed the vehicle for an inspection after it made a U-turn towards Gua Musang town.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the driver of the Proton X70 is believed to have lost control, swerved into the opposing lane and sideswiped the rear of a Toyota Hilux,” he said when contacted.

The SUV then skidded onto the road shoulder before crashing into a lamp post.

“One man died at the scene, while another succumbed to his injuries at the hospital,” he said.

Sik said several other occupants of the Proton X70 were injured and receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The Toyota Hilux driver and police personnel involved in the incident were unharmed.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“We urge eyewitnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist with the investigation,” he said.
