“On Aug 5, I met with the Speaker and handed over my resignation letter as MP, effective 5pm, Aug 10.

“We shall also be removing the honorific title of Yang Berhormat from all our correspondence by next month.

“I will be holding a press conference on Wednesday (Aug 12) at 11am,” Wong added in his statement.

A few minutes before releasing the statement, he had posted a video on his Facebook pageof him packing his belongings at his Subang office, with the caption “No caption needed”.

This development follows political friction within PKR regarding the blocking of constituent funding allocations via the MyKHAS portal for several MPs linked to the Bersama political movement.

Wong Chen is a three-term MP, first elected to the Kelana Jaya seat in 2013, and later re-elected to the renamed Subang constituency with a landslide majority in 2018 and 2022.

A trained lawyer, Wong Chen previously chaired Pakatan’s alternative budget committee.

He recently made headlines after Speaker Johari confirmed that during a one-and-a-half-hour private meeting, Wong Chen explicitly proposed resigning as an MP and laid out the specific reasons behind his decision.
