Police hunting down man who doused woman with petrol and set her on fire in Kepong

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have launched a special operation to track down a man who doused an elderly woman with petrol and set her on fire in Taman Pusat Kepong here.

Acting Sentul OCPD Supt Jasni Zolpa said the victim, 62, who worked at the counter of a number forecast operator, was attacked by the unknown suspect on Sunday (Aug 9).

“Preliminary investigations revealed the victim did not have any enemies nor received any previous threats. The motive of the incident is being investigated,” he said in a statement on Sunday, adding that the victim suffered about 50% burns to her body and was rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital, where she is in stable but critical condition.

The Kuala Lumpur police headquarters’ forensics team has also conducted further investigation at the scene of the crime top collect evidence, he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
