KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakatan Harapan youth coalition has called on all Barisan Nasional ministers and deputy ministers to resign from the cabinet, accusing the coalition of betraying the spirit of the unity government by openly cooperating with Perikatan Nasional in the Johor and Negri Sembilan elections.

In a joint statement today, the coalition said BN’s latest political moves demonstrated that the party was prioritising short-term political interests over its commitment to the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

It claimed BN’s cooperation with PN had created serious doubts about the coalition’s loyalty to the federal administration, despite holding key positions, including the deputy prime ministership, several ministerial portfolios and other senior government posts.

The statement also criticised BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s recent remarks that cooperation between BN and PN at the state level could serve as a formula for future political collaboration ahead of the 16th General Election.

“Such an admission shows that the BN-PN cooperation is no longer temporary or merely tactical, but is instead preparation for a new political alignment.

“This raises serious questions about BN’s commitment to the unity government,” the statement said.

It argued that PH had consistently honoured the spirit of the unity government by allocating executive council positions to BN in Selangor and Penang following the 2023 state elections, despite both states being led by PH.

It said BN’s repeated political manoeuvres were testing the patience of its partners within the unity government.

“As such, Angkatan Muda Harapan urges all BN ministers and deputy ministers to resign immediately so that BN can focus fully on strengthening its political cooperation with PN without affecting the administration of the federal government.”

The coalition also accused BN of adopting a “double-faced” approach by remaining in the federal government while simultaneously exploring closer cooperation with PN.

It said the resignation of BN ministers would remove confusion among the public over the coalition’s political direction and reduce the risk of any attempt to destabilise the Unity Government.

It added that the government should instead focus on strengthening the economy, attracting investment and improving the people’s welfare, rather than allowing political uncertainty to persist.

The joint statement was issued by AMH information chief Ammar Atan, DAP Youth publicity secretary Ho Chi Yang, PKR youth information chief Danish Hairudin and Wanita Amanah Negara communications bureau director Syazana Nasir.
