Johari: Adapt successful Johor election formula for NS polls

TAMPIN: Barisan Nasional must adapt its successful Johor election strategy to fit the local political realities of the upcoming Negri Sembilan polls, said Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

The Umno vice-president said BN’s landslide victory in Johor was not achieved through a single factor, but rather a combination of three core elements: party strength, strategic candidate selection, and election machinery capability.

He said these three factors served as the vital foundation that BN needed to implement in Negri Sembilan to ensure its candidates secured the mandates of the people.

“We won in Johor because we fulfilled these three aspects.

“A strong party, capable candidates, and a well-functioning machinery. When we come to Negri Sembilan, the state has its own strengths and challenges. We cannot assume the same formula will apply automatically,” he said.

Johari said this during a meeting with the Tampin BN election machinery here yesterday.

He noted that the party machinery played a critical role in determining BN’s success as it served as the primary link between the candidates and the people throughout the campaign period.

He added that having a strong party and good candidates would not suffice if the machinery failed to operate as a cohesive team.

“If our party is good and our candidates are good, but the machinery is weak or experiencing internal friction, it will be difficult for the candidates to gain support,” he said.

Johari said a victory for BN in Negri Sembilan would form part of the coalition’s broader efforts to rebuild and fortify its position at the state level ahead of future elections.

He added that BN must continue to nurture new leaders who could ensure the continuity of the party’s struggles based on its track record and experience.
