ISKANDAR PUTERI: Barisan Nasional is close to finalising its list of candidates for the Johor state election, with seat negotiations among component parties nearing completion, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

“We will finalise (the candidate list) within a short period from now. Our seat allocation is almost finalised, and I will negotiate with the component parties of Barisan Nasional while I am here in Johor,” he said after launching the state BN election machinery.

Zahid said the return of former party leaders through the Rumah Bangsa initiative was an extraordinary morale booster for the coalition’s machinery.

The majority of former leaders had already held meetings with him and volunteered to take to the field to help secure victories for BN candidates, he said.

“What is even more impressive is the impact among the youth, as this group comprises approximately 82% of the total applications received by the party,” he said.

He said BN could look forward to an absolute victory in Johor by combining the influence of veteran figures with the wave of support from new young voters, which could attract votes, including those of 18-year-old new voters and other young voters.

Johor BN had announced that it would contest all 56 state assembly seats. In the March 2022 elections, Umno-Barisan Nasional won 40 out of 56 seats, while Pakatan Harapan won 12, Perikatan Nasional won three, and MUDA won one.
