Doctors in love face the sack after being caught for khalwat

MELAKA: Two government doctors are under scrutiny following an alleged khalwat (close proximity) incident at a rented home in Semabok here, as state health authorities await the outcome of an investigation by the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM).

Melaka health, human resources and unity committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem said the state’s Health Department will determine the appropriate course of action once JAIM concludes its inquiry into the case.

“We are waiting for JAIM to conclude its investigation.

“If the allegations are confirmed, the department will proceed with the appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with civil service procedures, including termination,” he said when contacted on Thursday (July 31).

Ngwe added that both doctors are still reporting for duty while the investigation is ongoing.

It was earlier reported that the couple, both aged 26 and serving at a public hospital here, were reportedly detained during a JAIM raid at a single-storey terrace house in Taman Semabok Perdana around 3.25pm on July 29.

Witnesses said the raid drew the attention of mosque officials, police and residents, who waited outside the home for nearly 20 minutes after the couple allegedly refused to open the door.

The situation was resolved when JAIM officers arrived and entered the premises.

During the encounter, the male doctor was said to have questioned the officers’ authority to carry out the inspection, claiming the house was shared with two other housemates who were not present at the time.

The incident has since sparked public interest due to the nature of the allegation and the couple’s roles as public healthcare professionals.
