PETALING JAYA: The Liberal Democratic Party, a component of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, is not contesting in the Nov 29 Sabah state election.

LDP president Chin Su Phin said the party will fully support GRS in its election campaign.

Chin said the party leadership reached this decision after carefully considering political and economic factors.

He said LDP remained consistent in supporting GRS for the sake of Sabah’s political stability and economic growth in the long run, The Borneo Post reported.

“Frequent changes of government do not necessarily guarantee better governance or economic prosperity. On the contrary, political instability can erode investor confidence and hinder Sabah’s progress,” he was quoted as saying.

LDP is one of the six component parties of GRS, led by caretaker chief minister Hajiji Noor.

It was formerly a Barisan Nasional component but left the coalition following the 2018 general election, which saw BN falling out of power at both the federal and state levels.

The party went solo in the 2020 state election, fielding 46 candidates but losing in every seat. It joined GRS in April 2023.
