KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic flow on most major expressways remained heavy as of 9pm Saturday (Aug 29) as people began travelling for the long National Day weekend.

A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesman said northbound traffic was moving slowly from Gopeng to Simpang Pulai, Sungkai to Bidor, and Bukit Beruntung to Bukit Tagar.

Traffic was also reported to be slow from Bertam to Sungai Petani Utara and from Sungai Dua to Bertam.

For southbound travel, congestion was reported from Seremban to Senawang, while traffic from Nilai to Seremban was slow following an accident at KM425.4 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS).

“On the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK), traffic is slow-moving from Gombak to Genting Sempah due to an increase in vehicle volume, with no accidents recorded along the route,” the spokesman told Bernama when contacted today.

Meanwhile, LLM expected road conditions to remain congested until midnight due to the continuous influx of vehicles.

The increased traffic flow was also expected to affect vehicle movement Sunday (Aug 30).

In view of this, LLM advised drivers to ensure their safety and not rush to reach their destinations, besides adhering to traffic laws.

“We advise highway users to plan their holiday journeys, and for those who have just set off, to be patient and drive carefully. Drive safely, save lives,” it said. – Bernama
