Hadi: Pas will help Umno form Johor govt if BN falls short

MUAR: Pas is ready to help Umno form the Johor state government if Barisan Nasional fails to secure a simple majority in Saturday’s election.
Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the Islamist party and Perikatan Nasional will also back Umno for the menteri besar post.
“If Umno wins, Umno will get the menteri besar post. It is up to Umno to appoint its own people or anyone else to the executive council,” he told a press conference after PN’s Grand Finale ceramah in Bakri last night.
Hadi added that Pas will not demand the Johor menteri besar post or any state executive council positions.
“If Umno lacks a majority, Pas can complement them depending on the number of seats we win to help form a government with a simple majority. If they want a two-thirds majority and Pas has enough seats, we will lend our support,” he said.

He said what was most important to Pas was “Malay-Muslim political power” and non-Muslims who were “not extreme”.
Earlier in his speech at the ceramah, Hadi urged Umno supporters to vote for Pas candidates in seats where Umno is not contesting.
“In areas where Umno is contesting, and Pas is not, Pas members will help Umno. So, in areas where Pas is contesting (and Umno is not), Umno members must help Pas. This is the mutual understanding,” he said.
He said Pas wanted parties that have been around since independence, like Pas, Umno, MCA, and MIC, to lead the state.
