KUALA LUMPUR: The chief executive officer of a federal statutory body has been detained on suspicion of soliciting and receiving bribes from a construction contractor over a contract for the construction of a squash court.

Sources said the CEO, aged in the 40s, was detained by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers about 7.20pm today.

“It is understood that the suspect solicited a bribe of RM1 million for the approval of the contractor’s payment claims and allegedly received RM500,000 as a down payment prior to Aidilfitri.

“The suspect was detained at a shopping complex in Bukit Jalil after allegedly receiving RM100,000 from the contractor involved,” a source told Harian Metro.

MACC is expected to seek a remand order against the CEO at the Putrajaya magistrate’s court tomorrow.
