Nizar Najib said a police report would have been lodged over Najib Razak ‘s claim if the order was not genuine

KUALA LUMPUR: None of the authorities have denied the existence of a purported order allowing former prime minister Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest, says his son Nizar.

Nizar, a Pahang executive councillor, said if the order was indeed not genuine, a police report would have been lodged over Najib’s claim.

“If it’s a fake document that does not exist, why have none of the authorities lodged any police report to deny it? Based on that logic, the addendum is real,” Nizar said during a pro-Najib gathering at the Melawati convention centre in Ampang last night. About 250 people attended the gathering.

Nizar reiterated that he had personally sighted a copy of the order, which has been described as an addendum to a Pardons Board decision on Feb 2 that reduced Najib’s jail sentence.

He said the copy of the order was given to him by the Pahang palace after he had an audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, following media reports about the addendum.

Najib is currently serving a reduced six-year prison sentence, halved by the pardons board from the initial 12 years, following his conviction in the SRC International case.

Nizar expressed disappointment with the government for appearing unwilling to place his father under house arrest. “Why are they so afraid of my father?” he said.

He contended that as pardons for inmates in the federal territories were the sole prerogative of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, it was not a question of whether the addendum was valid or not, but simply whether it existed.

If it does exist, the government is compelled to carry it out, he said.

On Jan 6, the Court of Appeal will hear Najib’s application for leave to adduce fresh evidence in his appeal to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest, which he claims was issued in a supplementary order to the Feb 2 announcement.
