Wan Junaidi voices support over Sarawak govt’s decision to retain assessment exams
SIBU: Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has voiced his support over the Sarawak government’s decision to retain assessment examinations for Year Six, Form Three, and Form Five students.
Dr Wan Junaidi in his Christmas message on Tuesday (Dec 24) said that students face significant challenges in their educational journey, marked by key tests and examinations at every level.
“Although the pressure of examinations may feel burdensome, it actually trains children to face greater challenges in the future. If managed well, this pressure becomes part of the process in building a strong and competitive character.
“In this regard, I believe the state government’s decision to maintain the importance of examinations at certain levels is appropriate and justified. It aims to prepare the younger generation to be better equipped and capable of facing the more challenging demands of adult life.
“We do not wish to produce a society that is weak or non-competitive in the future,” he added.

He called on parents, teachers, and the community to continue providing full support to children in their learning journey.
“With a strong educational foundation, we can produce a generation that is more excellent, self-reliant, and capable of advancing Sarawak toward greater progress and prosperity,” he added.
Touching on the Christmas festive season, Wan Junaidi reminded everyone travelling back to their hometowns to always prioritise road safety.
He also urged commercial vehicle drivers, such as lorry and bus operators, to adhere to traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving.
“Respect other road users and refrain from rushing to meet deadlines. Shared safety should always be our top priority,” he added.
