‘Veterans and families still bear the scars of communism’

BRINGING Chin Peng’s ashes back into the country will not change the fact that he was a communist terrorist, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Opposition leader said many soldiers, policemen and civilians were killed or injured during the war against the communists.

“Their families are still here – so are their grandchildren, children and wives. What happened to their fathers cannot be forgotten.

“There are still former soldiers and civilians who bear scars from wounds inflicted by the communists, ” he said at the Parliament lobby.

The Bera MP, who was a former minister, noted that the previous Cabinet had decided against allowing Chin Peng’s ashes from being brought back and questioned the present government’s stand on the issue and what it will do following the incident.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said it was the responsibility of the government to clear the issue.

“The most important thing is if you as the authority find it is not proper then an investigation needs to be conducted, ” he said.

Dr Wee added that any government decision must be justified and based on whether it would promote racial harmony and be positive to the economy.
