Purported leaked conversation between Idris Haron and PM should be investigated, says Zahidi

A recent leaked conversation allegedly between Sungai Udang assemblyman Datuk Seri Idris Haron and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob should be investigated, says Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin.

“We are disappointed because this (purported leaks) has happened multiple times. We must investigate so this doesn’t happen again.

“We will investigate if the telecommunication companies were involved in recording the calls,” he said when met at the Umno headquarters after the supreme council meeting on Thursday (Oct 14).

Zahidi said he did not want these recordings to be used as political fodder if a state election is held.

“This is not right, recording the Prime Minister and using it for the state polls. I also hope the polls will not be held,” he said.

During the conversation, the voice purported to be that of Idris, who has since been sacked from Umno for his role in the revolt that saw the dissolution of the Melaka state assembly, claimed that the previous Barisan Nasional-Perikatan coalition had ignored the needs of the Chinese and Indian communities in Melaka.

Idris has denied that it was him in the voice message.

Zahidi said such leaks should be prevented from happening again.

“We don’t want to involve the police because we rather not have an investigation paper opened. We only ask their (public) cooperation in helping us, not to arrest people,” he said.

Separately, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said that the party will wait for the Election Commission when asked about the Melaka state election.

“No decision tonight. We wait for the EC decision,” he said.

The EC is scheduled to hold a special meeting to discuss the Melaka polls next Monday. The Star
