Royal pardon petition: I know who tries to frame me – Najib

KUALA LUMPUR – Former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak has never been informed about any petition to request the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) to grant him a royal pardon.

On the contrary, Najib does not reject the possibility that it was an effort of certain quarters who wanted to tarnish his image, especially when he is facing high profile court cases.

“When this became the main news at Perikatan Nasional (PN) portal, MalaysiaNow and it was broadcasted live, we know who wanted to frame me.

“I thank this NGO for its concern but I have never contacted them and I was not informed about their petition to the Istana this morning,” he said in his Facebook post today.

Earlier, Pertubuhan Sahabat Ulul Amri Malaysia (PSUAM) pleaded the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) to grant a royal pardon for the Member of Parliament of Pekan.

Its Chairman, Syed Muhammad Imran S.N. Syed Abdul Aziz said that the pardon should encompass all ongoing and convicted court cases on the Pekan MP.

He also said that the royal pardon is important to enable Najib to be appointed as Interim Prime Minister and return to rule the country in facing Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Najib repeated his stand that he is committed in clearing his name via the legal process, not by dropping his cases.

“I want my cases to go through fair and transparent trial and legal processes. It is the only way to clear my name.

“I don’t want my cases to be dropped just like that and I don’t want any political meddling.

“I am very confident that I am not guilty. Why do I need to be pardoned if I am not guilty?

“I am brave for I am true,” he added. MG
