Hamzah orders cops to probe ‘durian RM30’ offer

PETALING JAYA: Home minister Hamzah Zainudin wants the police to look into allegations that Pakatan Harapan MPs were offered cash and ministerial posts to support Perikatan Nasional. He also wants the cops to investigate if these MPs had made false reports.

“I have instructed the police to conduct a detailed and thorough investigation into the police reports following allegations by several Pakatan Harapan MPs that they received messages on WhatsApp offering them bribes,” he said in a statement.

“Apart from referring the police reports to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), an investigation is also being carried out to determine the veracity of the allegations.”

He promised that the home ministry will ensure that “stern and uncompromising action” is taken against those proven to have committed a criminal offence, including making false and defamatory police reports

Last week, DAP MPs M Kula Segaran (Ipoh Barat), Dr Kelvin Yii (Bandar Kuching) and Khoo Poay Tiong (Kota Melaka) alleged they were enticed by an anonymous person to join PN with an offer of “durian RM30”, thought to be ministerial positions and a large amount of cash.

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had said his party’s MPs from the constituencies of Hulu Selangor, Kuala Kedah, Alor Setar, Balik Pulau and Setiawangsa had been approached with similar offers to support the PN government.

Earlier today, MACC said it had yet to identify who was behind the alleged offer and it had met the MPs to investigate their claims.
