PETALING JAYA: New senior minister for security Hishammuddin Hussein took over the role in style today – literally – providing the country’s daily Covid-19 updates with some sharp, colourful and clear messaging.
Apart from the EMCOs, the number of police operations and MCO offenders arrested – all daily details – were organised neatly in a series of infographics which accompanied the media statement. The relevant information was also arranged systematically in tables at the press release.
Hishammuddin took over the responsibility from deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today by announcing that several areas in five states will be placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from July 29 to Aug 11.
Eleven localities in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, will be placed under an EMCO from July 29-Aug 11 – Bandar Sierra, Bandaran Segama, Kampung Kalasanan, Kampung Pulau Penampang, Kampung Tebobon, Kampung Unggun, Lorong Cina 1, 2 & 3, Plaza Kingfisher, Polytechnic Commercial Centre, Taman Bukit Setia and Taman Putera Jaya.
Also in Sabah, eight localities in Penampang will be placed under an EMCO during the same dates – Country Height Fasa 1, Cyber City Fasa 1, Kampung Nabangkung, Kampung Ramayah, Kampung Sarapung Kolopis, Kampung Tuunon, Taman Vista Kiranau and Vista Minitod.
Meanwhile, four localities in Beaufort – Kampung Beaufort Selatan, Kampung Kebulu Petani, Kampung Lumadan and Taman Arjuna – as well as three in Tawau will be placed under an EMCO during the same dates. The localities are Kampung Blok 31, Kampung Darat Inderasabah and Kampung Tanjung Batu Darat.
Rounding off the list of areas in Sabah to be placed under an EMCO is the Ladang Tinabau housing in Kinabatangan.
In Sarawak, three localities in Kuching – Kampung Bumbok, Kampung Jawa Batu 12 and Kampung Telaga Air – will be placed under an EMCO during the same period.
Meanwhile in Johor, Kampung Pertanian and Kampung Separa in Senai, as well as the Taman Bukit Perdana construction site workers quarters in Kluang, will be placed under an EMCO from July 29-Aug 11.
An EMCO will also be implemented at Felda Jengka 7, Maran (Pahang) and the Kerilla farm in Tanah Merah (Kelantan).
Hishammuddin also said the EMCO at the Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Lintas Sibuga, Sandakan (Sabah), Kampung Telaga and Kampung Pituru, Pitas (Sabah) and Felda Jengka 8, Jerantut (Pahang) will come to an end tomorrow.
The EMCO at Kampung Jagoi Duyoh in Kuching, Sarawak, and Taman Samudera in Gombak, Selangor, will also end tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the SOP compliance task force ordered 60 premises – comprising 40 businesses, 12 factories and eight construction sites – to close yesterday after failing to comply with SOPs.
Ismail also said 465 people were arrested yesterday over MCO-related offences, 438 of whom were issued compounds and 27 remanded.
The authorities also detained 14 undocumented migrants and seized four cars yesterday as part of the ongoing Op Benteng campaign
Regarding mandatory quarantines, Ismail said 256,907 people who arrived through KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 24 last year to July 26 this year were placed under quarantine.
Some 3,600 tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, while 244,027 have been allowed to return home.
Some 9,280 people are undergoing mandatory quarantine.
