Mohd Shuhaily: Don’t let KLIA become like Selayang

PUTRAJAYA – Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said he wanted Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to be free of foreign touts.

“I do not want KLIA to become like Selayang,” he said during a press conference here on Thursday.

Mohd Shuhaily said the establishment of AKPS came with a clear mandate to secure the country’s entry points and prevent criminal elements from threatening public safety and order.

He said the support and encouragement from the public had strengthened his resolve and that of his team to continue improving security and infrastructure at entry points nationwide.

“I truly appreciate it, and that is what keeps me motivated to continue improving the infrastructure and security at the country’s entry points,” he added.

He also credited his team at the headquarters and entry points nationwide for helping to improve the agency’s performance since he took the helm.

“When I first joined AKPS, my team members helped and guided me in understanding the agency’s direction.

“I am grateful to my team, not only at the headquarters but also at all the country’s entry points, where they are showing better performance day by day,” he said.

Mohd Shuhaily stressed that AKPS had a responsibility to ensure the country’s entry points did not become places where activities threatening public safety and order could take root.

“The Government established us for a reason, not simply for the sake of it,” he said.
