4.4-magnitude earthquake hits waters off Batu Pahat
PETALING JAYA: The meteorological department (MetMalaysia) recorded a 4.4-magnitude earthquake in the waters off Batu Pahat, Johor, at 4.55pm today.
The department said the epicentre was located 27km southwest of Batu Pahat at coordinates 1.7 degrees north, 102.7 degrees east, with a depth of 10km.
“Tremors were felt in several locations in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and surrounding areas,” MetMalaysia said in a statement.
The department said it would continue to monitor the situation.
Last month, a weak earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale was recorded in the waters off Batu Pahat.
The department had said the Aug 25 earthquake occurred about 18km southwest of Batu Pahat at a depth of 10km.
