TUMPAT: Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has agreed to an understanding with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the Johor and Negri Sembilan elections, as well as the next election in Melaka, after assessing what he described as a “dangerous” political threat.

Pas deputy spiritual leader Datuk Ahmad Yakob said Abdul Hadi had taken the approach after assessing the political situation and recognising the need for an understanding between parties to face what he described as a major threat.

“Pas under Perikatan Nasional has taken an approach to establish an understanding with BN in the Johor and Negri Sembilan elections and, subsequently, in Melaka because he sees a major danger ahead.

“We look at this in the context of democracy. Therefore, we need an understanding to face this dangerous group.

“We want to create awareness among Islamic parties,” he said when speaking at the launch of the Pas Tumpat election machinery at Kampung Sedar here tonight.

Ahmad said the understanding was important to ensure the parties could work together to face the challenges ahead.

He then urged Pas members to prepare for the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16).

“We hope party members will make preparations to face the coming GE16,” he said.
