Knife-wielding Melaka student reported to have chased classmates

ALOR GAJAH: The atmosphere during a co-curricular session at a secondary school here reportedly turned chaotic when a male student allegedly chased three of his classmates while brandishing a knife on Thursday afternoon.

Sources said the 3pm incident saw a Form One student chasing his classmates from the school hall to the surau before he was calmed down by teachers and prefects, who managed to wrest the knife away from him.

The sources said the student was believed to have psychological problems and had been on medication.

“It was lucky that the teachers and prefects acted swiftly to handle the situation. No injuries were reported in the incident,” one source said.

District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar, when contacted, said investigations were ongoing, adding that a statement would be issued later.

The incident comes just days after a stabbing at a school in Banting in which a girl was injured.

The alleged assailant is expected to be charged over the incident on Saturday morning.
