Cooperation with Bersatu ended, not relationship, says PAS No 2
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said ties between his party and Bersatu will remain, expressing hope for continued unity ‘for the ummah’.

PETALING JAYA: PAS’s decision to end its political cooperation with Bersatu does not mean it has severed all ties with the Muhyiddin Yassin-led party, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said today.

Tuan Ibrahim said PAS’s decision was aimed at giving both parties room to determine their respective directions without being tied down.

“While the political cooperation has ended, our friendship should not be severed.

“Our decision does not mean PAS is choosing enmity (with Bersatu). Ending this political cooperation gives both parties greater freedom to determine their directions.

“But the relationship between members and leaders of both PAS and Bersatu will continue. We will all continue to unite for the sake of the ummah,” he said in a statement.

On Monday, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the party’s central committee had decided to put an end to its political cooperation with Bersatu.

Hadi also said PAS would explore forming a new political pact in preparation for upcoming elections, with the goal of uniting the ummah.

The decision came nearly three weeks after Hadi said several issues caused by Bersatu had strained ties between the two parties.

This has thrown the direction of Perikatan Nasional into limbo, as both PAS and Bersatu remain members of the opposition coalition. The other two components are Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People’s Party.
