Naimah slams MACC, Anwar over continued probe against late husband
Naimah Khalid said the authorities had repeatedly accused Daim Zainuddin of ‘stealing billions’ without providing any concrete evidence of wrongdoing.

PETALING JAYA: Naimah Khalid, the widow of former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, has slammed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for continuing investigations into her husband’s finances.

Naimah expressed her frustration over MACC’s recent statement that investigations into Daim’s finances and assets remain ongoing, including a probe into a “money trail” overseas, under Section 23 of the MACC Act.

“What money trail? To probe a ‘money trail’, there must be an offence of corruption committed first.

“If there is no offence, then assets, whether held in Malaysia or elsewhere, are lawful and the result of hard work,” she said.

Naimah also believes that the continued probe undermines the court’s acquittal of Daim on the asset declaration charge.

“Is the government not respecting the decision of the courts?”

In January, Daim claimed trial to a charge of failing to comply with the terms of an asset declaration notice issued by MACC.

However, after his death on Nov 13, the Kuala Lumpur sessions court cleared Daim of the charge, with prosecutors saying they will proceed with the case against Naimah, who also faces an asset declaration charge.

Naimah further took aim at Anwar, who she said has repeatedly accused Daim of “stealing billions” without providing any concrete evidence of wrongdoing.

She said no clear answers have been given regarding the nature of Daim’s alleged offences, despite repeated requests to MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki.

“Until his death, they were not able to give an answer. Was this fair to him?” she said.

Naimah called on the government and MACC to stop their continued posthumous accusations against Daim, describing it as a “cowardly” move.

“Surely, it is time Anwar and his MACC chief stopped fooling the public with fairy tales and fabrications about non-existent offences or baseless stories about ‘billions’ being looted,” she said.
