Missing UM student found safe, seeking treatment at HKL

PETALING JAYA: Missing Universiti Malaya (UM) student Nawal Shahirah Mohd Jamil, 23, who was reported missing, has been found safe.

Nawal is currently receiving psychiatric treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), Sinar Harian reported.

The reason for her going missing is believed to be due to emotional stress after the loss of her mother.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said the individual had gone to the hospital to seek treatment before authorities confirmed she is in a safe condition.

He said HKL confirmed that the individual was receiving psychiatric treatment at the hospital.

“The individual had entered the hospital herself last Wednesday (Jan 28) for treatment. Her condition is reported to be good and is now in the ward for mental health observation,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Earlier, the police were reported to be conducting an investigation, including examining the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the residence of the UM student who was reported missing since last Tuesday.

Nawal Shahirah was reportedly missing after last seen at a condominium near Jalan Profesor Diraja Ungku Aziz, Section 14, here, last Tuesday.
