Umno was not behind MP retracting support for PN, says Tajuddin
PASIR SALAK: Umno is not directly involved in its MPs withdrawing support for Perikatan Nasional (PN) but it agrees with the decision by individuals to retract support for the ruling coalition.
Party Supreme Council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said he was also expecting more MPs to announce a similar stand as the PN government was in a very weak and dangerous position.
“The government could collapse at any time. How can we depend on a government which is so weak and hanging in the balance?
“Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin must consider the best course of action to save the situation.
“We simply cannot allow the government to remain in this position.
“Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakob’s move to retract support for PN is a catalyst for change,” he said after an event at Felcra Changkat Lada here today.
Tajjuddin, who is also the party’s election director, said Umno’s official stand was to stand united with PPBM only until the next general election.
“This is the party’s decision. If the general election is held in March, then our support will be until then. If it is held in June, then it will be until June,” he said.
Replying to criticisms that Umno was not thinking of the Covid-19 pandemic and its adverse impact by pushing for a snap election, Tajuddin said the party felt it was more important to have a stable government to handle the situation.
Yesterday, Jazlan withdrew his support for Muhyiddin, which saw the PN support in the Dewan Rakyat reach a precarious situation.
