KUALA LUMPUR: Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa said today he is being investigated under the Sedition Act for questioning the appointment of Muhyiddin Yassin as the eighth prime minister in March.

Mujahid said he is also being investigated under the Penal Code and the Communications and Multimedia Act. He did not elaborate. However, the relevant sections in the two laws relate to making statements of public mischief, and sharing offensive material over the internet.

Mujahid questioned why the investigation was being conducted months after he made remarks, in March.

“I made the statement in March following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government and after Muhyiddin was made the prime minister.

“I don’t know why it took so long for police to investigate the matter,” he said when met outside Bukit Aman where he was questioned for more than an hour.

Mujahid, who is MP for Parit Buntar, also wondered why the Sedition Act was being used.

Earlier today, the deputy director CID, Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, confirmed the investigation by the D5 Classified Criminal Investigation Unit following the receipt of a report by Bukit Aman on an “old issue”.

In March, a police report was lodged against Mujahid and fellow Amanah MP, Khalid Abdul Samad over a statement which was deemed to be questioning the King’s decision to appoint Muhyiddin as prime minister.

Mujahid dakwa Muhyiddin takut dengan usul Mahathir.
