PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has urged political leaders to end their squabbles and jostling for power, warning that such disputes could lead to divisions.

Sultan Sharafuddin conveyed the message after meeting former Selangor menteris besar, Khir Toyo and Azmin Ali, as well as current menteri besar Amirudin Shari, after Friday prayers today.

“Instead, attention should focus on the state’s development, the welfare of the people and those in need,” Sultan Sharafuddin said, according to a social media post by the Selangor royal office.

Sultan Sharafuddin said differing political views and ideologies should not prevent cooperation in the interests of Selangor and its people. The ruler also said leaders must discharge their responsibilities with integrity by putting the interests of the people above their own, or those of their parties.

He reminded political leaders that Selangor’s progress must go hand in hand with harmony and administrative stability. Political leaders should also engage in dialogue when dealing with differences, he said.
