PUTRAJAYA – Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says he places his trust in Allah SWT, the country’s judicial system and the rule of law as he awaits the outcome of his appeal involving the Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armada) funds.

He expressed hope that the proceedings would run smoothly, considering the case has dragged on for nearly five years.

“I would like to thank everyone who has shown up and also the public who have continuously offered prayers and support.

“I am deeply indebted to all of you. InsyaAllah, everything will go well today.

“I place my fate in the hands of Allah SWT and in the judicial and legal systems of this country, which I respect,” he said during a press conference at the Court of Appeal, here, today.

Syed Saddiq also extended his condolences over the passing of fifth Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, on Monday.

He paid tribute to the late Abdullah for his service and contributions to the nation, particularly in initiating reforms in the country’s legal system.

“As a politician, I truly hope all of us can uphold the moral awareness and values of integrity as exemplified by the late Tun Abdullah,” he added.

The former Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president arrived at the courthouse at about 8.20am, appearing in high spirits, accompanied by his family.

Also present was celebrity Bella Astillah, a close friend of his to show her support.

Previously, the court had fixed March 19 and 20 for hearing of the appeal.

However, after two days of submissions, proceedings were adjourned to April 17 (today) after deputy public prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin informed the court he was unable to continue due to a sore throat.

Syed Saddiq, 33, had been sentenced by the High Court to seven years in jail, two strokes of the cane and a RM10 million fine for four offences involving funds from Armada.

He was found guilty of all four charges, one charge of abetting then Armada assistant treasurer Rafiq Hakim Razali in committing criminal breach of trust by withdrawing RM 1 million of party funds, one charge of misappropriation of party funds of RM120,000 and two money laundering charges.

A decision on his appeal is expected to be reached today.
