KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is investigating two reports related to the PKR polls, including one involving a candidate in Perak who allegedly brandished a firearm.
“MCMC will assist police investigations into the circulated video and act as a technical analyst to verify certain things,” communications minister Fahmi Fadzil told reporters when met at an Aidilfitri open house.
In the one minute video, which has since gone viral, a candidate who is vying for a post in the Tambun division claimed that another candidate had brandished a gun.
Fahmi, who is also the PKR information chief, said the candidate who uploaded the video had since lodged a police report.
Earlier today, Kosmo reported that Hulu Kinta assemblyman Arafat Varisai Mahamad denied that he had brandished a firearm during the party polls.

Harian Metro, meanwhile, reported Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin as saying that the authorities had summoned eight witnesses to facilitate the investigation.
Noor Hisam said they were in the midst of identifying other witnesses.
Separately, the second report, according to Fahmi, involved a Facebook post which had allegedly slandered a candidate in Perlis.
He said the report was filed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which deals with offensive posts.
PKR is currently holding elections for its divisions and will choose its central committee leadership in May.
