Stop levelling baseless accusations at GPS, Sarawak DAP Youth told

PETALING JAYA: Sarawak DAP Youth should refrain from levelling baseless accusations against the state’s ruling coalition if it is sincere in fighting for Sarawak’s oil and gas rights, a leader of a local party said.
Nor should the wing mislead the public over the state-federal relationship, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth chairman Kevin Lau said.
“If they share the common cause, they can do their part to provide accurate facts with regards to our rights,” Lau was quoted by The Borneo Post as saying.
He said Sarawak DAP Youth should emulate the move by Gabungan Parti Sarawak senators, who held a press conference in Parliament yesterday to counter the narrative and information published by certain media.
Lau said this when dismissing a call by Sarawak DAP Youth to form a bipartisan committee to strengthen the state’s position in negotiations with the federal government over its oil and gas rights.

He said such a proposal was reactionary, and also gave the impression that the youth wing was merely catching up with the progress made so far.
Lau said the Sarawak and federal governments have engaged in extensive discussions since the late Adenan Satem’s time.
Under premier Abang Johari Openg’s leadership, he said, significant milestones have been reached, including the recent recognition of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) as the state’s sole gas aggregator.
“Sarawak DAP Youth needs to decide and establish for themselves what should be the effective role they can play in terms of pursuing Sarawak’s oil and gas rights,” he said.
Yesterday, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Youth labelled as redundant a proposal by its DAP counterpart for a bipartisan committee on oil and gas.

The wing’s secretary, Azizul Annuar Adenan, said there was no need for such a committee as negotiations between the state and the federal governments were progressing well.
“Rather than setting up a committee which will be redundant, (Sarawak) DAP Youth could start by strategising with their counterparts in the federal government and in Parliament to support our fight for our rights in Parliament,” Azizul was quoted as saying.
