‘Count me in’: Nurul Izzah to go for PKR veep’s post

PETALING JAYA: Former Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar will be contesting for the PKR vice-presidency during the party’s elections in May.
The daughter of PKR president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced her candidacy today, according to Bernama.
Nurul Izzah said she wanted to nurture talent in PKR as part of renewing and strengthening the party ahead of the next general election.
“I hope party members will give me the opportunity to shoulder this responsibility. I also hope that this election will be conducted in the spirit of unity and family.
“We want a sense of togetherness in our efforts to unite hearts and ensure that the best talents are given space and opportunities – not just to be candidates but to contribute meaningfully,” she was quoted as saying.

Nurul Izzah decided not to contest for a post in the 2022 party elections. However, she was later appointed a PKR vice-president.
The other two appointed vice-presidents are deputy unity minister K Saraswathy and former Putatan MP Awang Husaini Sahari.
The four vice-presidents elected in 2022 are Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari, Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun and federal ministers Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Chang Lih Kang.
So far, Amirudin, Aminuddin and Nik Nazmi have announced that they would be defending their vice-presidencies.
Nurul Izzah was a three-term MP but lost her Permatang Pauh seat in a shock defeat in the 2022 general election, when PAS’s Fawwaz Jan wrested the seat with a 5,272-vote majority.
