Sabah PKR information chief Razeef Rakimin (left) told his Warisan counterpart, Azis Jamman, that the latter’s party had already distanced itself from Pakatan Harapan before GE15.

PETALING JAYA: Sabah PKR information chief Razeef Rakimin today hit back at his Warisan counterpart, Azis Jamman, for claiming that PKR and DAP had made the first move to sever ties with Warisan in Sabah.

Razeef said it was Warisan which had decided to ditch its alliance with Pakatan Harapan (PH) by deciding to go solo in the 15th general election (GE15).

He said Warisan had also clashed with PH in the 2022 Johor state election, the former’s maiden election outing in West Malaysia, which ended with all of the party’s candidates losing their deposits.

“Warisan should not point fingers at PH as if the coalition abandoned it, when in reality, Warisan had already distanced itself from PH in Sabah.

“Even (Warisan president) Shafie Apdal himself made several statements clearly saying that Warisan would fight PH in Sabah in the upcoming state election,” he said in a statement.

Razeef also said that central PKR communications chief Lee Chean Chung, who had urged Warisan to reconsider its decision to go solo in the upcoming Sabah election, should not meddle in Warisan’s affairs.

“Lee should not be a busybody meddling in another party’s affairs, particularly regarding whether it wants to cooperate (with PH) or go solo (in the state polls),” he said.

Yesterday, Lee said Warisan’s decision to go solo in the state polls had disappointed the unity government. He said Warisan should clarify whether it intends to remain a part of the unity government or if it would withdraw and join the opposition.

Lee, the Petaling Jaya MP, also asked if Warisan leaders should resign from their federal government positions to be consistent with their political stance.

Warisan’s Lahad Datu MP Yusof Apdal, Shafie’s brother, is the federal deputy science, technology and innovation minister.

In response, Azis asked why Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s loyalty to Putrajaya was not disputed despite its refusal to accept PH as a partner in Sarawak.

He said there should be no issue with Warisan contesting against PH in Sabah as the latter is also a rival to GPS in Sarawak.

Azis also said it was PKR and DAP that had cut ties with Warisan first. He said DAP contested under the Warisan banner in the 2020 state election but later “decided to leave us” by joining the Hajiji Noor state administration.

Razeef said PH’s support for Hajiji was simply to ensure Sabah’s development and political stability, especially in terms of its post-pandemic recovery.
