PKR calls for patience in Sabah’s corruption investigation
KOTA KINABALU: Investigations into the corruption scandal in the state must not be rushed, as doing so could result in flaws that may allow guilty individuals to escape justice.
Urging the public to be patient, PKR deputy information chief Razeef Rakimin stated that the government has provided the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) with the space to carry out its investigation without interference.
“The Prime Minister is known for his firm position against corruption and misuse of power, and other government leaders have not interfered with or pressured MACC to expedite the prosecution. Instead, they have been given the necessary space to carry out their duties,” Razeef said.
He warned that if investigations were rushed to satisfy certain parties, there could be flaws in the prosecution, potentially allowing guilty individuals to evade justice.
“This could damage the credibility of both the authorities and the Madani government. We believe this is part of the reform efforts under the current Unity Government,” he added.

Razeef also mentioned that MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has assured the public that investigations would be completed by the end of January, and an update would be announced in February.
“MACC has completed the investigation into a whistleblower and a former officer from the state-owned Sabah Minerals Management Sdn Bhd, and the investigation paper has been submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP),” Razeef explained.
Further investigations involving several assemblymen have also been handed to the DPP for follow-up, with the DPP instructing the investigating officer to complete additional details before the end of this month.
Razeef stressed that while it is important to acknowledge that some individuals may attend rallies to voice their dissatisfaction with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, their criticisms are often unfounded.
“Under the current government, efforts to combat corruption have been vigorous, with a significant increase in arrests and prosecutions, which stands in stark contrast to the previous administration, where many corruption cases were dismissed or overlooked, Razeef added.

He reiterated that the current government’s commitment to eradicating corruption is evident from the increase in investigations and prosecutions under the Madani government.
On another note, Razeef highlighted that Anwar, having fought for democracy since his youth, understands the people’s right to voice their opinions.
He referenced the “Himpunan Rakyat Benci Rasuah” rally at Dataran Sogo in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (Jan 25).
“The recent approval for around 200 protestors to gather for the rally shows that, for the first time, the government acknowledges the right of the people to express their views.
“However, we must ensure that these actions are organised properly and not manipulated by outside forces,” Razeef said.
He added that any actions, including demonstrations, must be supported by evidence and followed by the appropriate authorities, such as the police or MACC, opening investigation papers when necessary.
