Abang Jo’s pol sec rejects call to change ‘Sarawak premier’ to ‘prime minister’
PETALING JAYA: The chief political secretary to Abang Johari Openg has shot down a proposal to rename the post of Sarawak premier to “Sarawak prime minister”.
Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said there should only be one prime minister in Malaysia, namely the head of the federal government, Dayak Daily reported.
“I am confident that under the leadership of the prime minister and Sarawak premier, Malaysia will continue to prosper in terms of the economy, infrastructure development and energy transition,” he was quoted as saying.
The Tupong assemblyman reiterated the importance of Sarawak’s rights and status within the federation under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
He said this would ensure that the spirit of the Malaysian federation envisioned by the nation’s forefathers would be preserved while guaranteeing national stability.

Fazzrudin was responding to a proposal made by Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party president Lina Soo, who said renaming the Sarawak head of government’s post would align with the Bornean state’s status as an equal partner in the federation.
Soo had noted how Lee Kuan Yew was known as Singapore’s prime minister when it was a part of Malaysia.
