PAS rally another attempt to ‘impose culture of fear’, says PKR man
PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy youth chief Kamil Munim has rejected an invitation from PAS Youth to join its rally on Friday to protest against “certain parties threatening the harmony of Malaysian Muslims”.
Kamil, who is the political secretary to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in his capacity as finance minister, said the rally was another attempt to “impose a culture of fear” among Malays.
He added that it was a populist attempt to gain cheap political support by stirring racial and religious sentiment.
“Thanks, but no thanks. There is nothing at risk,” said Kamil in a post on X.
“PAS Youth needs to be more mature and responsible. Don’t destroy the social fabric of this country with your racial and narrow religious sentiments. This is not part of any religious demand.”

Kamil added that Muslims’ rights must be upheld by elevating the dignity and standard of living of the people, strengthening the economy, fostering unity among the people, fighting corruption, and promoting social justice.
PAS Youth deputy chief Hafez Sabri yesterday invited its counterparts in Umno, PKR and Amanah to join the “Himpunan Bangkit Ummah” protest which will be held outside the Masjid Jamek mosque in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, after Friday prayers.
Hafez said the rally went beyond political lines and was aimed at defending the rights of Muslims, adding that they would also be protesting against senior DAP leaders, and Cabinet members, Hannah Yeoh and Nga Kor Ming.
PAS’s ally Bersatu had lodged multiple reports against Yeoh, the youth and sports minister, accusing her of attempting to convert Muslims and turn Malaysia into a Christian nation.
Housing and local government minister Nga, meanwhile, has been slammed by PAS over a Christmas celebration at his ministry, which they claimed involved some Muslim staff.

In response, a ministry source said they did not force any of its personnel to attend the function, and that the carollers who performed at the event were Christians from Sabah and Sarawak, while the songs were secular in nature.
Yesterday, Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda said PAS Youth should be magnanimous and meet the two ministers from DAP to get a clearer picture of the controversies linked to them.
PKR Youth secretary Omar Mokhtar A Manap also dismissed PAS’s invitation, calling it “nothing more than a political stunt.”
