KOTA KINABALU: Personal or narrow-minded political agendas cannot win the mandate of the people, says a Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah leader.

Its information chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan was commenting Wednesday (Jan 1) on Sabah Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Bung Moktar Radin’s recent criticism of the state government as being the most ineffective in Sabah’s history.

Bung Moktar had accused GRS of failing to deliver on its promise of creating thousands of job opportunities, and for unresolved infrastructure problems, among others.

Nizam, who is Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, said Bung Moktar was making baseless accusations without checking his facts.

He said during Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s four years at the helm, state revenue has almost doubled while investments continue to rise.

Citing examples, he said Sabah recorded over RM6.9bil in revenue in 2023, the highest in the history of the state; while investments such as the RM2.3bil copper foil factory by SK Nexilis at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) opened up thousands of job opportunities.

Nizam also cited the petrochemical investment at the Sabah Ammonia Urea Plant (Samur) which has provided some 1,000 jobs among numerous other investment and industrial developments in the state.

“The state government continues to provide conducive infrastructure to improve the economy of the people, especially in rural areas,” he said.

“(Claims) of the government’s ‘incompetence’ are just to distract from the actual accomplishments of the GRS government.

“He (Bung Moktar) should realise that personal interests or narrow-minded political agendas cannot be used as the main weapon to win over the hearts of the people,” Nizam added.
