PAC denies Zahid’s claim it took info on Semarak20 at face value
PETALING JAYA: No part of the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) information on the proposed sale of the Semarak20 building on Jalan Semarak in Kuala Lumpur was taken “at face value”, the committee told rural and regional development minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Yesterday, the PAC had raised concerns in its report over the proposed sale of the Semarak20 building, which remains unsold despite several local and international companies expressing interest in purchasing it.
In a statement this evening, PAC chairman Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the contents of its report were compiled from information and facts tabled by Felcra Bhd in proceedings attended by the rural and regional development ministry’s secretary-general and Treasury deputy secretary-general.
“PAC did not obtain the information in its report on Felcra, especially on the sale of the Semarak20 building, at ‘face value’ (as alleged by Zahid).
“PAC wants all parties, including the rural and regional development minister, to read the report in question and examine all the facts and information contained before making accusations,” she said.

Mas Ermieyati said the PAC, being a bipartisan committee staffed by 14 MPs from both sides of the aisle and aided by seven ex-officio representatives, goes through a complicated process before it tables its reports in Parliament.
“(The process involves) confirming all its conclusions, recommendations and reviews, and getting a consensus from all its members and ex-officio representatives,” she said.
Earlier today, Zahid said he would instruct the Felcra chairman and CEO to explain to PAC the proposed sale of the Semarak20 building.
Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said it would be easier to sell the commercial building en bloc at the current market price.
“I will ask the Felcra chairman and CEO to give PAC a detailed explanation and prevent the latter from taking information at face value as Felcra had taken out a loan to build this complex.
“If it is not paid off, it will impose a financial burden on Felcra,” he told reporters after a meeting with all state executive councillors in charge of the rural portfolio today.
However, Mas Ermieyati said the PAC would not call in any more parties for information on the building’s sale, as two reports on the building have already been published.
“However, the PAC will discuss and decide on debating the report on Felcra in Parliament as had been done for the report on HRDCorp in July,” she said.
