Anwar: China’s Li Qiang coming to Malaysia for Asean Summit but not Xi Jinping

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 — Chinese President Xi Jinping will not be attending the 4th Asean Summit here this weekend, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed today.
China will be represented by Premier Li Qiang instead, the Malaysian prime minister told the Dewan Rakyat.
The three-day summit from October 26 to 28 is expected to be the largest gathering of prominent world leaders, including United States President Donald Trump, in Kuala Lumpur in decades.
“In addition to Asean leaders, the summit will also be attended by the World Bank president, the International Monetary Fund chief, representatives from the Asean+3 Macroeconomic Research Office, the East Asia Business Council, and the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat.
“The International Labour Organisation director-general Gilbert F. Houngbo, and the International Federation of Association Football president Gianni Infantino, will also be present in a special Asean session,” Anwar said.
