Joint raids in Klang Valley uncover myriad violations

LOCAL authorities in Klang Valley have been cracking down on several commercial premises and petty traders, including those operating at Ramadan bazaars, for various offences such as operating without a licence.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) worked with the Immigration Department on a joint raid at Pasar Harian Selayang in Jalan Selayang Baru, Batu Caves, Selangor.

Enforcement officers inspected several premises last Saturday and six were found in breach of local by-laws, including causing obstruction by placing their goods on five-foot ways.

“Four of these premises were also operated by foreigners,” DBKL said in a statement.

“Our officers took action under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 including seizing goods.”

DBKL added that those who came across similar offences could lodge complaints via adukl.dbkl.gov.my

“We will carry out regular inspections and take action against parties or individuals caught flouting the law.”

Built in 2021, Pasar Harian Selayang is owned and managed by DBKL. It is located on the border between Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Di Mana Penghujungnya Perang Antara Mahathir Dan Anwar

Selangor youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi was previously reported saying that foreigners were not allowed to operate at Ramadan bazaars.

Separately, an enforcement operation in Petaling Jaya saw eight premises being ordered to cease operations after they were found to be operating without valid licences.

The operation by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) last Friday night involved a barber shop, a beauty salon, two grocery shops, two eateries and two hotels.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon, who headed the operation, said action was taken under MBPJ’s Licensing, Trade, Business and Industry 2007 By-law and MBPJ’s Hotel 2013 By-law.

“I have no issues with people wanting to do business, but they have to ensure they have obtained the necessary licences,” he said in a video posted on MBPJ’s social media platform.

The video also showed Mohamad Zahri inspecting dirty grilles of a kitchen at a premises as well as a pipe that was illegally installed and diverting kitchen waste into a storm drain.

The mayor said MBPJ would also carry out operations targeting illegal structures soon.

Complaints to MBPJ can be made by calling 03-7957 4113/ 7954 2020 or visiting https://mbpj.spab.gov.my
