Govt rules out acquisition of Datasonic Technologies

PETALING JAYA: The government has ruled out the acquisition of Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd (DTSB), amid reports of a proposed takeover of the company, which provides identity-related services.

In a statement on Saturday (Aug 22), the National Security Council (NSC) said the government remained committed to safeguarding Malaysians’ identity data, describing it as one of the country’s most important strategic assets.

It said the government placed the highest priority on protecting the security and sovereignty of people’s identities, with efforts to regulate the matter carried out through legal, financial, governance, and security frameworks.

“The government is continuously exploring and examining proactive and effective strategies to protect the security and sovereignty of the people’s identities,” it said.

Such strategies, the NSC added, must also deliver the best value for every ringgit spent.

The council said the government remained committed to ensuring that all parties involved continued to provide safe and trustworthy services to the people.
