PETALING JAYA: Deputy energy transition and water transformation minister Akmal Nasir has failed to defend his post as Johor Bahru PKR chief, becoming the latest prominent PKR leader to falter in the party’s divisional polls.

With just 587 votes today, the two-term Johor Bahru MP lost to Taufiq Ismail who garnered 709 votes.

Akmal, a former PKR Youth chief, became Johor Bahru PKR chief in 2014. He is currently the party’s strategic director.

In Ledang, state PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh was unopposed and returned as divisional chairman.

Former education minister Maszlee Malik successfully defended his post as Simpang Renggam PKR chief after obtaining 125 votes for a slim victory over Wong Yung Chin (109 votes) and Yusof Rahman (82 votes).
