BN, PH must agree to choose best partnership for Sabah, says Salleh

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan, which are partners in the federal unity government, should not part ways in the upcoming Sabah state election, says Sabah BN treasurer Salleh Said Keruak.
However, Salleh said cooperation between the two coalitions is not exclusive, and BN is open to collaborating with local parties with “similar aspirations” to face the state polls.
“What matters most is sincerity and willingness to cooperate. BN and PH must agree to choose the best partnership for Sabah,” he said in a Facebook post, adding that “Sabah needs stability, not disunity”.
Salleh, a former Sabah chief minister, said many have been asking him who BN will be partnering with in the state election.
“Various views and assumptions have been made. This is normal in a democratic system, and BN is always open to a wide range of views.

“For me, the stance on this is clear. BN and PH are the main pillars of the unity government at the federal level. So, in Sabah, too, we should not part ways. We are united for unity, stability and development.
“Our focus is on the state and the people, not on endless politics. We reject extreme politics that divide the people.”
Salleh said any alliance in Sabah should take into account:
- Fair and equal distribution of seats;
- Common policy, including respecting Sabah’s autonomy; and
- Political accommodation based on mutual respect, not domination or adopting a “big brother” attitude.
“Once these principles are agreed on, all parties must move forward as a team. This is not a personal fight, but a joint commitment for Sabah’s future,” he said. The state election must be held by December.
