PN will do a better job than unity govt, says Muhyiddin

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin says he is confident that the opposition coalition will administer the country a lot better than the unity government and resolve basic issues.

“We (PN) can fix the situation. The people are currently going through a difficult time, whether it is no increase in income, the rising cost of goods or the lack of subsidies.

“It is an extremely difficult situation,” the former prime minister said at a breaking of fast event here.

But any new government, Muhyiddin said, must be democratically elected.

He also said the notion that PN was a “government-in-waiting” was not idle talk, citing the coalition’s achievement in managing the Covid-19 pandemic when it was in power.

Muhyiddin said although there were no set rules on how to manage Covid-19, his administration had governed well and helped the country to survive the pandemic.

He said despite the lack of a vaccine, PN managed to resolve the various problems brought on by the pandemic, including reviving the country’s economy.

Muhyiddin’s government had rolled out the nationwide vaccination programme in February 2021.

Muhyiddin went on to claim that till today the people he met would express gratitude for the initiatives the PN-led government introduced including a moratorium on loans and allowing EPF withdrawals.

“They tell me that if it wasn’t for these initiatives a large number of them would not have been able to carry on with their lives.”
